Biking in Lagnes

fleurs_lagnes.jpgIn Lagnes, there is a discovery trail that starts from the Town Hall (“Mairie”) and explores the diverse, interesting vegetation.

  • Length : 2 hours
  • Altitude change : 120 m
  • Level : Easy, fun as a couple or for the whole family

Leave from: Lagnes - parking “Mairie”. Green arrows show the way to the fountain and the café, on Place du Bataillet which you cross, and beyond that on the “Colline du Pieï” (Pieï Hill). Here, a first sign describes the landscape. Go down on the right to reach Groubelle vale, with its lines of cypress trees. The path winds gently up toward terraced fields with white oak and green oak, viburnum, dogwood, Aleppo pine and cedar. Calamint, madderwort and golden chain are full of fragrance along your way. Wild asparagus and osyris alba have taken over, where terraced fields were formerly tended. Oak trees give way to pine at the base of the cliff, where the trail takes you. Take a rest at the orientation table at the Chante-Perdrix rocks, which gives out over the beautiful Pieï hill and the Lagnes valley.  A downhill through durmast oak takes you back to the village. Once back on the paved road, see on your left the Bouï Vieï well, a type of borie topped with rock slabs – this was a typical system for storing water for the crops.
