A very colorful circuit among the ochre-streaked cliffs and earth pillars, between scrubland and shady woods, in the heart of the ochre country in Rustrel.

Attention: Be careful, this is a sensitive, fragile zone, with very delicate soils. Stay on the trail and respect the pools and basins.

Description:
Take the GR 6-97 in the eastern direction, then, in a left-hand curve, take a right on the old
Rustrel road (“chemin de Rustrel”). Cross the Doa creek and go by an old cabin in ruins, continue on the GR. A little higher up, the path overlooks an ochre sand canyon. Leave the GR 6 to the left, and follow the yellow marks. At the top of the vale, take a left on a small road. At the next crossroads, turn right. After a small farm, follow the path which goes along the plateau (magnificent panoramas over the valley, the Monts de Vaucluse and the Grand Luberon). Continue following the yellow marks. After a short downhill, go to the right, and follow the Gourgues ravine. Be careful, do not turn left on the next path. At the following fork in the road, go left on a trial that is nearly horizontally west. Go along tended fields, in the direction of the Croix de Cristol Hill. At the foot of the hill, go right on a path which goes down toward Istrane. Cross the Doa and go back up the road to Istrane. At the intersection, turn right on the old chemin de la Poste. Go near an old ochre packing factory, and next to Bouvène. See the earth pillars. Go back to the parking lot.
