Ménerbes is a village which has long been active in farming, winemaking, and industrial stone work. Reach the village via the washing wells. Here you have stunning views of Mont Ventoux, Gordes, Roussillon and Cabrières d'Avignon. Continue up to the top of the village via the square “Place Albert Roure”.
Visit the town, see the Town Hall square (“Place de la Mairie”), go the church and the small cemetery which overlooks the valley. As you wander the village, you can see the Citadel, which overlooks the village and the home which belonged to Dora Maar and Picasso. See also the Tingry mansion. On the Town Hall square, see the bell tower and the former private mansion which belonged to the d'Astier de Montfaucon family. On the way to the church, on the right, see the Carmejane and the Cure, two of the most beautiful buildings in the village. From the old cemetery, you can also see the beautiful Le Castellet, where the painter Nicolas de Staël once lived.
On the way back, after the Town Hall, take “Rue du Portail” to see Saint Blaise Chapel, built in 1734 by the White Penitents. On the right is the monument dedicated to Clovis Hugues, Provencal poet born in Ménerbes in 1851.
